Our students are encouraged to participate in character building and leadership roles. They may participate in a variety of activities throughout the school year. Peer helpers and mentors are just a few of the programs available at Westhills to empower the students with the tools they need to become productive citizens.

Each morning, students at Westhills will participate in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance. We have high standards for character and behavior within our school. Students are expected to adhere to the Positive Behavior Intervention System within the school and use safe and responsible behaviors in order to fulfill our two purposes for each day; number one is to teach and number two is to learn. 

We have a computer/STEM lab equipped with various materials for beccoming responsible digital citizens. Students will visit the computer lab for class once a week to explore the digital literacy concepts outlined for the state of Alabama. We have a variety of programs that teachers may choose to supplement learning with (Renaissance Math and Reading, Freckle by Renaissance, Starfall, Google Classroom, Myon Online Library, etc.). The internet is available for research as well as accessing various websites. Ms. Elizabeth Turner is the Instructional Technology teacher for Westhills Elementary.

Within our school, we offer high-quality intervention services for Emergent Bilingual Learners. Students using English as a Second Language will be provided with intervention services from our ESL coordinator, Ms. Wanda Washington. 

Ms. Lewis works with 30 students from the 3rd through 5th grade in a pull-out program. She works with them a minimum of 3 hours per week. She is responsible for the 2nd grade students  being screened for the program. Their unit of study this year has been personal growth and change. They have focused on the little things they can do to make the world a better place.

Our counselor is Ms. Veitch. She works with the students helping to build their character. She is developing future leaders through her various programs and projects.
 

Mrs. Beverly Graham services Westhills, Davis Middle School, Dunams' Private School and St. Aloysius Catholic School. She works with 42 students from preschool through 8th grade. She also teaches SFA reading for the speech students and the special needs students from the LD and autistic population.

Students will participate in reading and math assessments through the STAR Renaissance Platform. Students will participate in Freckle assignments on their computer which are directly connected to their progress made with STAR diagnostic testing. We strive each day to provide data-driven instruction to students, these platforms are helping our students reach success and achieve their learning standards for Kindergarten-5th Grade. 

Our PTA is invaluable to Westhills. They are involved in many projects and programs within our school.
