Westhills Elementary Families Enter the ‘Plus Zone’ for Math Night

BESSEMER, Ala. — Westhills Elementary transformed its campus into a hub of numerical discovery, hosting a successful Math Night designed to engage families in the "plus zone."

The event, held from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the school’s Glenn Road campus, invited parents and students to explore interactive games and activities. The initiative focused on providing families with practical, fun ways to support mathematical skill development outside of traditional school hours.

In addition to the academic programming, the evening featured local food trucks on-site, creating a festive atmosphere for the Bessemer community. Families moved through various stations that emphasized learning through laughter and hands-on participation.

“Bring the whole family for an evening of learning, laughter, and fun,” school officials said in the lead-up to the event.

The program is part of a broader effort at Westhills to strengthen the partnership between home and school. By showcasing math as an approachable and enjoyable subject, educators aim to build student confidence and foster a collaborative environment where parents feel equipped to assist with their children's education.

Administrators credited the high turnout to the combination of family-friendly entertainment and valuable take-home strategies, marking another milestone in the school's commitment to academic excellence and community engagement.
